"Never, never, never quit"
-- Winston Churchill
A (very) Brief Introduction to Mentoring and Coaching:
Mentoring and coaching are often grouped together because they are very similar. Both involve a partnership between two people where one helps to improve the attitudes and functioning of the other. The difference between mentoring and coaching is mainly with regard to the specificity of the
process.
|
|
Mentoring
gives the person a clearer sense of purpose and
a better image of themselves. The purpose of mentoring may be more
clear to the mentor than to the mentee until well into the process. A possible
definition is to help people understand their potential and become the person they want to be. Mentoring is usually more open ended than coaching. The mentoring phase of Coaching to Wholeness® involves helping the client to understand the approach of Innate Health. By connecting to their wellbeing, people will naturally move to a deeper understanding of their potentials.
|
|
Coaching
is usually more directed to a specific goal,
to the accomplishment of something fairly well defined.
The purpose of coaching is usually (though not always) defined by the client
rather than by the coach. One possible definition of coaching is to help people manage their lives so that they may more fully realize their potential by accomplishing what they want to accomplish.
Coaching can also be extended, but is more apt to have a more clearly stated
time limit. The principles of Innate Health are put into practice so that the goals a person sets for him or her self will express wellbeing in life.

Both mentoring and coaching cover a wide range of goals through diverse populations.
And the same two people may be in a mentoring relationship at one phase and
a coaching relationship in another.

Coaching to Wholeness®
There are many different uses of Mentoring and Coaching. For example, coaching is often used to help executives function more efficiently, or to assist entrepreneurs clarify their goals and strategies. Sports and the arts use coaches as well. Mentoring, on the other hand, can be used to model how a person could function in their chosen field.
Coaching to Wholeness®, however, uses the approach of Innate Health to help people get in touch with their wellbeing and wisdom so that they can live a more deeply satisfying and meaningful life.
Coaching to Wholeness® through the Three Principles of human psychology -- Mind, Consciousness and Thought -- helps us to function at a higher level of integration and clarity. Coaching to Wholeness® thus helps us to realize possibilities that before may have been unthinkable.
Innate Health
Innate health, also known as Health Realization or Psychology of Mind, is based on Three Principles of human psychology discovered by Sydney Banks in 1973. We use this approach because of its almost miraculous efficiency in cutting through to the essential wellness and clarity that all human beings possess, whatever their circumstances. These Three Principles are Mind, Consciousness and Thought.
Mind:
Mind is the universal intelligence that is infinitely creative and without form. It is the field from which all form comes.
Consciousness:
Consciousness is reflective energy of life that makes things seem real and that creates experience.
Thought:
Thought is the first form of Mind, the flow of possibilities to which Consciousness can attach itself to create perception and experience, what we call reality.

Coaching is NOT Therapy!
We want to emphasize that Coaching to Wholeness® is not therapy. Rather, we teach an approach to living that can be used by anyone in any situation or phase of life. Initially, the Three Principles of Mind Consciousness and Thought may seem artificial and mysterious. However, as we come to understand them at deeper and deeper levels, we will find that we use these principles more and more. As we connect more deeply to our wellbeing and innate wisdom, we will come to appreciate the enormous potential that this approach releases.

Coaching to Wholeness® and Healing Systems
The word 'wholeness' comes from the Old English world 'halen'. 'Halen' is also the source of the word 'health'. Wholeness and wellbeing, we can therefore say, are only possible with a minimal level of physical health. Because of this and because there is such an interest in alternative healing methods, we have included a page that describes some of the major modalities and how to know when and how to use them. This is a complex subject, but an important one. You can access this page by clicking here.
We have intentionally left out diet and exercise as there is simply too much to say about this to include these topics here.
